M Faisandier (He/Him/They/Them) is an Aotearoa, New Zealand born composer, guitarist, musician and sound engineer exploring harmonic development and extreme time stretching to produce durational, dynamic, textural, immersive and enveloping compositions. He currently works and resides in Victoria, Australia.
In 2022, M crowdfunded his way into an Introduction to the Guitar Circle with Robert Fripp in Glen Cove, New York USA. In 2021, in collaboration with musician Erin K Taylor and programmer Lachlan Sleight, he composed a generative soundtrack for ‘Gondwana’, a world first 24 hour Virtual Reality experience which featured at Sundance Film Festival 2022, SXSW 2022, Sheffield Doc/Fest, CPH:DOX, Silbersalz Science and Art Festival, Sonár, and a special 48 hour exhibition in the 2022 Melbourne International Film Festival. He is a foundational member of The Convoy (alongside artist and sound healer Erin K Taylor) as producer, engineer, composer, vocalist and guitarist, Aotearoa NZ based Akaname and “pseudo-electro bird-grind” duet Ornithologist (alongside artist Otis Chamberlain). He also works with processed voice and lighting, performing under the alias Nil Silver Raven, collaborates with Thomas Arbor in 100 Suns, is a member of Aotearoa NZ collective Sonorous Circle and has collaborated with many other musicians and artists.
In 2011 he founded, built and ran Magnet Studios in North Coburg, Australia. The project involved converting / up-cycling a mushroom farm into studios which would invite, embrace and cultivate a creative community of artists and musicians. In 2020 with support and assistance from friends he was encouraged to give the project away, receiving hundreds of expressions of interest from people and groups from as far away as the Shetland Isles. The process took a little under two weeks to identify a recipient for the gift – Di Drew – who now continues to run the space.
He has engineered and produced hundreds of recordings and live performances and currently resides and works in regional VIC Australia.
