THE MAKE IT UP CLUB

This week I went to the long-running improvised sound night, the Make It Up Club, at Bar Open. It’s been running every Tuesday for almost 20 years!!! Saw a couple bands with great names – INTRINSIC LIGHT, and SACRED ORDER OF MAGNITUDE – the latter pictured here:

SHOW TONIGHT! I.RYOKO, THE CONVOY & DOWSER

There’ll be tourist photos galore in the next week or so but today I’ve been preparing for the fast-approaching show, at The Toff in Town TONIGHT! (Thursday) > Tickets here!!! < Please tell all your sound-loving Melbourne pals : )

THE CONVOY

THE CONVOY got a review of their album, ‘Heh’, on Echoes and Dust this week that said of their music: “It’s such a gorgeous embrace of all living things happening around us. With soundscapes that drone into infinity and elements that engage you. I can’t stress this enough, this is the music everyone needs in their lives.” (-Anthony Cooley)

It’s good advice. I certainly felt better after being treated to some deeeeeep sonics from these two! Here’s Matt & Erin troubleshooting a squeely tape machine a couple nights ago:

MAGNET

I’ve been verrrrry lucky to have access to the Magnet spatial studio to rehearse in! As you can see it is a giant concrete room that one can turn into a blissful cocoon with 4-channel surround sound! This will also be the venue for Saturday’s show. A dream setup:

THE DELUGE

Tonight’s show will be perhaps the first I.RYOKO show (EVER?) that I will not be using my trusty namesake Yamaha CS10 synthesiser! Instead I brought over the much lighter and far less broken Synthstrom Deluge that I’ve been using to entrancing effect!

It’s an incredible sampler/sequencer/do-it-all music-machine designed by Rohan Hill in Wellington, NZ. Check out their site for more info!
