This is our first release with people we have not yet met in real life… We will have to hang out soon! A Dead Forest Index are the brothers Adam and Sam Sherry who have weaved their seductive musical tendrils into our consciousness all the way from Melbourne, Australia. It is lovely to have their unique sounds on board the Circle.

SCR012: A Dead Forest Index – Antique EP

Recently remastered for Sonorous Circle release, ‘Antique’ is a short and brooding EP. The brothers Sherry have produced four tracks of heavy imagery with layers of vocals that build like a smothering smoke; Eloquently hissing lines like “turning the distance into a pattern… endlessly illuminating”, and “I plant myself inside your veins; they are now my home”. The acapella brings a black out. Guitar lines chug along slowly with a beautifully toned and vibrant sound that blends nostalgically with the drums in their mutually unremitting rhythms. These could be apocalyptic psalms. Probably a good idea to keep an eye out of your face for these dudes.

NEW BLEACHBOYS RELEASE

Friends,

It is with the greatest of excitements that we bring to you the wonderful sounds of Maya Victoria’s Bleachboys.

Graduating from the UK music scene where she was founder of multi-pyramad doom beat orchestra “Leopard Leg” and member of “The Polly Shang Kuan band”, MV currently creates low end cassette player tape loop brain tangle junk sound music out of her warehouse resort in Melbourne, Australia.

SCR011: Bleachboys – Chthonic Worship
Magnetic weight train makes way through snowstorm. Icey assault, collapsing spacetime and vibrational pole reversal impede and train slows but does not grind to halt, for it is governed by forces that manifest beyond the science and before the magic.
This is an eleven point five minute piece of dark and light ambient originally released on cassette (super limited and now sold out), available today for your listening pleasure in digital formation.

We are proud to welcome the first Northern Hemisphere addition to the Sonorous Circle; introducing Úlfur Hansson and his musical alias, Klive, all the way from Reykjavík, Iceland!

We first fell in brotherly love with Úlfur in Australia on the Jonsi tour in August 2010 and were delighted at the opportunity to get up to date by re-releasing his 2008 album, Sweaty Psalms:

SCR010: Klive – Sweaty Psalms
Electronic music made with experimental and IDM tendencies from complex and intriguing sounds. Detailed like detritus with the character of creatures and electrified oceans. Just the right amount of grime with organic grace. Subtle audio manipulation used to create other worlds with the warmth of home. This is an album that requires patience, for there is little that is rushed and with much layering and depth it remains elusive after repeat listens. Originally self-released in Iceland in 2008, Sweaty Psalms is now available for download or on CD in limited supply from our neck of the woods!

AN INTERVIEW WITH KLIVE:
In order to make up for our immense geographical divide we asked him a few questions so you could all get to know him a little:

/ You originally released Sweaty Psalms in 2008 at the age of 20. Nice one! What was the process of making this album? What tools do you like to use?
It wasn’t a very focused project to begin with. I started making my own music a long time ago, and eventually came to a point where I recognized certain characteristics connecting some of my songs. Something I felt in these sounds outlined a path I was eager to explore – that something  being a kind of liminality difficult to pin down. Venturing further towards these strong undefined emotions was very exciting. Anyway, SP was mostly made from field recordings I made during trips around town, holidays in the countryside etc – mixed with more sinister synthesis from my max/msp doodles – and finally sequenced with warm live instrumentation in Ableton.

SONOROUS CIRCLE COMPILATION NUMBER ONE

Tis that time again! An arbitrary point on the spiralling vortex of time where the cycle is seen to come back around. The New Year is upon us! And with it, of course, comes the inclination to take stock.

With so much having gone on it is no easy feat to summarise the events of the year but to say the least, as predicted twelve months ago, 2010 was indeed a year of gathering momentum for Sonorous Circle. We made many new friends, had countless good times and feel privileged to have been involved with the release of some of our favourite albums of the year.

If the last was anything to go by, the coming calendar is set to be packed with even more releases, shows and general goodness. Fun to be had! Here’s a free compilation to get us rolling. Happy new year to ye all, we hope you enjoy.
