SCR037: THE ALL SEEING HAND – SYNTAX ERROR

The All Seeing Hand

“Disciples of A.S.H. rejoice! Wellington’s beloved three-headed pet Cerberus, The All Seeing Hand have unleashed their latest conceptual offering Syntax Error, a meticulous piece of craftsmanship that further cements them as one of the most adventurous sonic risk takers in the country.” – Kristen Ng for UTR.

“The tracks on Syntax Error explore some of the contradictions that coexist in this complex moment, where seemingly all truths claim a capital T, and both the virtual and physical world are becoming a manifestation of a troubled mind.

“But with contradiction there is also hope, a striving for a new truth that recognises multiple voices; there is meditation, mediation, and reflection; there are communities navigating healing and growth.

“With ears open we can sing new songs to the vastness of the stars; we can transform our egos to embrace a future full of explorers of wonder and humility.” > Read/hear/see more here <

THE ALL SEEING HAND SINGLE RELEASE / SAM LONGMORE RESIDENCY BEGINS

Thursday, July 12th, 2018

ALL SEEING HAND NEW SINGLE – ROYAL OIL

“‘Royal Oil’ is the first single to be released from the All Seeing Hand’s forthcoming album ‘Syntax Error’; it tempts you to buy the seductive tale of off planet resource exploitation and the infinite abundance achievable for those visionaries with the power to make it happen.”

“We live in a time where a satellite disco ball joins the carcass of a car as decorations for our planet’s aura. Corporates and lawyers are exporting capitalism out to engulf all space, asserting flags of greed and vanity are the natural order, already flying in places as yet unreached.

Although the story is bleak, we are left with a melodic line that doesn’t sing this false ecology; with ears open we can sing to the stars with hope, we can transform our egos to embrace a future full of explorers of wonder and humility.

We are living a Syntax Error. The Program is broken. Let us take this opportunity to change the code.”

Full album out August 1st + Aotearoa tour begins 27th July! > Get tickets here <

SETH/CRAZY

Monday, January 4th, 2016

I don’t know what the lambs get up to but this lovely pair of humans had a productive 2015!

Sean Kelly (Seth Frightening) and Claire Duncan (I.E.Crazy) with Midnight and Lamb #2.
Thanks Veronica CP and Joseph Griffen for the photo!

It began with Seth Frightening‘s release of But We Love Our Brothers And Sisters – his sixth in as many years & the latest in a back catalogue of unrelenting brilliance. Direct and personal while still poetic, haunting, beautiful and always in that unmistakeable Seth Frightening style.

BWLOBAS FEATURE/ REVIEW

‘…his music is full of ugly emotions. Themes include, but are not limited to; death, sex, abortion, loneliness and existential frustration, told through layers of self-deprecation and home recorded charm. It’s heavy stuff, but far from being intimidated by such subject matters, Kelly finds writing about them therapeutic’.

“I write sad songs, but I don’t write them for you to feel sorry for me. I write them because it empowers me.” – Sean Kelly

BWLOBAS VINYL!

In November, Sean and his equally talented and radical accomplice Claire Duncan (I.E.Crazy / Dear Time’s Waste) toured the country to empathise with folks and promote his vinyl that had not yet arrived. Alas, it soon after came – fashionably late in beautiful bone tone – and has since been dispatched via a network of couriers. Email sethfrightening@gmail.com if you want one!

I.E CRAZY EMERGES FROM SHELL WITH #1 HIT

“To celebrate having lapped the sun 28 times without yet flying directly into it, I’m loosing this limping beast of a song into the world.” So wrote Claire on her birthday as she released her first track under the name I.E.Crazy:

The project is a distinct departure from previous work as Dear Time’s Waste, now expressing a harder-edged character. ‘A jilted lover’, ‘a “psycho ex”, a “crazy bitch”‘, she explains of the lyrics to You’re A Stranger To Me Now (#1 on the ODT’s 2015 NZ Singles of the Year list : D)

I.E.CRAZY SPEAKS!

Be delighted and/or disturbed by Claire’s “water-related analogies” and more in this up front interview with Emma Smith on RNZ’s Music 101:

WHEN THEIR POWERS COMBINE (w/ SHOCKING PINKS)

Lastly (but not leastly) check out this incredible Seth & I.E cover of the Shocking Pinks song, Nostalgia, released as part of a collection by A Low Hum in November:

SONOROUS CIRCLE FEATURED ON RADIO NZ!

Thanks to Samuel Flynn Scott and the lovely folks at Radio New Zealand‘s Music 101 for putting this together and broadcasting it to the nation! Featuring interviews with Womb, Paperghost and I.Ryoko. Stream below.

Charlotte Forrester, aka Womb

“Record labels are machines of hype, or at least they used to be. Some labels seem to exist for more esoteric reasons. Bring the right music together under the same label and strange alchemy can happen. Samuel Scott certainly found that to be the case at Sonorous Circle.”

MARTYN PEPPERELL INTRODUCES PAPERGHOST & WOMB

Sunday, April 12th, 2015

Music enthusiast and reviewer, Martyn Pepperell, has introduced a couple of SC affiliates for TheAudience.co.nz recently, introducing new tracks by Paperghost and Womb. Read more & link to the streams below!

PAPERGHOST – BADSPIRIT:

Paperghost
Drawing by Zach Webber

“With his forthcoming new album, Signal Fingers, Wellington composer, producer, and sound designer Paperghost (real name: Zach Webber) concocts a cycle of densely layered songs born from intricate stories and environments. Surreal and architectural, his music mixes imagination with reality, fictions and personal experiences so blurred you can’t quite tell one from the other.”

The full Signal Fingers album will be available for download here on Wednesday!

Charlotte Forrester (previously of Athuzela Brown) also shared a new track, Airplane, from her forthcoming EP:

‘Describing her music process as ritualistic, Charlotte has found she writes best within a sacred space and the correct accompanying headspace. “I feel it is necessary to return to the emotional landscapes the songs were written in, so that the recordings will harness the nature of the song I’ve written,” she explains.’

AUDIO FOUNDATION / I.RYOKO RESIDENCY : MUSIC, ETC!

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

If you have a spare 18 minutes, here’s a new track made while I was in residence at the Audio Foundation. It is a bit of an epic, combining violin, synth, voice and drums with some sounds that were bouncing around in my head at the time – the Auckland motorway, the factory above my studio, the kids playing at the school next door, ocean waves and news of unchecked state terrorism. More to come!

LIVE TO AIR: GLASS VAULTS ON DAYTROTTER

GLASS VAULTS

This is from a Live to Air that the Glass Vaults dudes did in New York. Includes a very nice recording of a very nice new track, Victorias!

www.daytrotter.com/#!/concert/glass-vaults/20055986-37383214

“Richard Larsen and Rowan Pierce of the Wellington, New Zealand, group Glass Vaults give unnervings blankets and they make them feel as cozy as they ever could hope to. They wrap them up, as if they were sick little children, coughing their brains out and running fevers in the triple digits, just burning up at night, suffering through their own doings and those that they didn’t bargain for. It feels like a decomposing, like some damp, lumpy posture – as if the people in the very deep, thick pools of these songs were waiting around for a phoenix, or for their arms to spontaneously grow wings out of their forearms and biceps. They’re ready to be lifted off of the ground, but they’re pretty sure that they’re going to be stuck down here with the dumpsters and the exhaust fumes…”
